POLYMERIZATION OF ALLYLTHIOUREA BY CONSTANT-CURRENT ELECTROLYSIS
OZKAN, H; Usanmaz, Ali; ONAL, MA (Wiley, 1994-11-01)
Allylthiourea was polymerized by constant current electroinitiation in acetonitrile using tetrabutylammonium fluoroborate as supporting electrolyte. The polymer obtained was insoluble in common organic solvents. FTIR studies showed that polymerization propagates by addition through the C=C double bond. The cyclic voltammogram of the monomer gave two irreversible oxidation peaks at + 1.3 V and + 2.4 V versus Ag-degree/Ag+ reference electrode at 25-degrees-C. Polymerization at room temperature gave a limi...
Polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate in bulk and solution by chemical initiator and by ATRP method
Vargun, E; Usanmaz, Ali (Wiley, 2005-09-01)
In this study, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) was polymerized to obtain polymers that can be used as hydrogel and copolymerized for biomedical applications. Bulk, solution, and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) techniques at different temperatures were applied. The polymerization in bulk form was carried out in vacuum and in open atmosphere. The polymerization curves showed autoacceleration mechanism and the limiting conversion was 100%. The polymers obtained were insoluable in most common solvents...
Polymerization of propylene oxide by the Pruitt-Baggett catalyst
Çolak, Nureddin; Alyürük, Kemal (Elsevier BV, 1989-9)
The Pruitt-Baggett adduct (PBA) which formed from the reaction of FeCl3 with propylene oxide (PO) was hydrolysed in diethyl ether (ether) solutions at different mole ratios. Although the hydrolysates were insoluble in ether they could be converted into PO-soluble form (PBC) by a thermal treatment providing that the r value was kept smaller or equal to unity. PBC polymerized PO concurrently into a mixture of high molecular weight crystalline polymer with low molecular weight non-crystallizable oligomers. Th...
