The objective of this study was to characterize parent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pPAHs) and their nitrated derivatives (NPAHs) in coarse (PM2.5-10), intermediate (PW1-2.5) and fine (PM1) particulate matters emitted from coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) in Huainan, China. The diagnostic ratios and the stable carbon isotopic approaches to characterize individual PAHs were applied in order to develop robust tools for tracing the origins of PAHs in different size-segregated particular matters (PMs) emitted CFPP coal combustion. The concentrations of PAH compounds in flue gas emissions varied greatly, depending on boiler types, operation and air pollution control device (APCD) conditions. Both pPAHs and NPAHs were strongly enriched in PM1-2.5 and PM1. In contrary to low molecular weight (LMW) PAHs, high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs were more enriched in finer PMs. The PAH diagnostic ratios in size-segregated PMs are small at most cases, highlighting their potential application in tracing CFPP emitted PAHs attached to different sizes of PMs. Yet, substantial uncertainty still exists to directly apply PAH diagnostic ratios as emission tracers. Although the stable carbon isotopic composition of PAH molecular was useful in differentiating coal combustion emissions from other sources such as biomass combustion and vehicular exhausts, it was not feasible to differentiate isotopic fractionation processes such as low-temperature carbonization, high-temperature carbonization, gasification and combustion. Leakage current by Frenkel–Poole emission on benzotriazole and benzothiadiazole based organic devices
Yıldız, D.E.; Karakuş, M.; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (Elsevier BV, 2014-12)
In this study three different organic semiconductors were used in the fabrication of ITO/ PEDOT:PSS/Polymer:PCBM/LiF/Al configuration. Reverse current density-voltage (J(r)-V) measurements of the samples were investigated to define the reverse-bias leakage current mechanisms on benzotriazole and benzothiadiazole based organic devices. Our results indicate that the J(r)-V plot behaviors are given by linear dependence between In (J(r)) and V-1/(2), where J(r) is the reverse current density, and V is the appli...
Operating conditions-induced changes in product yield and characteristics during thermal-conversion of peanut shell to biochar in relation to economic analysis
Liu, Ruijia; Liu, Guijian; Yousaf, Balal; Abbas, Qumber (2018-08-01)
The influences of pyrolysis conditions on the products yield distribution and physico-chemical characteristics of biochar derived from peanut shell in a fixed-bed reactor were investigated in this study. The pyrolysis conditions included the pyrolysis temperature (300-700 degrees C), retention time (15-90 min), heating rate (1-10 degrees C min(-1)), gas flow rate (20-200 mL min(-1)) and feedstock particle size (<0.075, 0.075 0.150, 0.150-0.300 and 0.300-2.00 mm). Various analytical techniques were used to c...
Emission factors of cement industry in Turkey
Canpolat, BR; Atımtay, Aysel; Munlafalioglu, I; Kalafatoglu, E; Ekinci, E (2002-07-01)
PM, SO2, NO2 and CO emissions were measured by Turkish Cement Manufacturers' Association (TCMA) in cement plants by using standard techniques and equipment since 1997. Emission factors (EF) were calculated by using these available data for the cement sector. The emission factors were found both for cement and grinding-packing plants separately. The results of the study were compared with international emission factors. It was observed that Turkish Cement Sector's particulate matter emission factors are high...
Emission characteristics for gaseous- and size-segregated particulate PAHs in coal combustion flue gas from circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler
Wang, Ruwei; Liu, Guijian; Sun, Ruoyu; Yousaf, Balal; Wang, Jizhong; Liu, Rongqiong; Zhang, Hong (2018-07-01)
The partitioning behavior of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) between gaseous and particulate phases from coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) is critically important to predict PAH removal by dust control devices. In this study, 16 US-EPA priority PAHs in gaseous and size-segregated particulate phases at the inlet and outlet of the fabric filter unit (FFs) of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler were analyzed. The partitioning mechanisms of PAHs between gaseous and particulate phases and in particles...
Electrochemical behaviour and electrochemical polymerization of fluoro-substituted anilines
Cihaner, A; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (2002-08-01)
The electrochemical behaviour of three fluoro-substituted aniline monomers, 2-fluoroaniline (2FAN), 3-fluoroaniline (3FAN) and 4-fluoroaniline (4FAN), was investigated in aqueous acidic and organic media by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) studies. Constant potential electrolysis (CPE) of the monomers in acetonitrile-water mixture (1: 1 by volume) using NaClO4 as supporting electrolyte yielded soluble polymers. The mechanism of electrochemical polymerization was investigated using in situ electron spin reso...
