The complexity of topological conjugacy of pointed Cantor minimal systems
Kaya, Burak (2017-05-01)
In this paper, we analyze the complexity of topological conjugacy of pointed Cantor minimal systems from the point of view of descriptive set theory. We prove that the topological conjugacy relation on pointed Cantor minimal systems is Borel bireducible with the Borel equivalence relation Delta(+)(R) on R-N defined by x Delta(+)(R)y double left right arrow {x(i):i is an element of N} = {y(i):i is an element of N}. Moreover, we show that Delta(+)(R) is a lower bound for the Borel complexity of topological co...

The geometry of self-dual two-forms
Bilge, AH; Dereli, T; Kocak, S (1997-09-01)
We show that self-dual two-forms in 2n-dimensional spaces determine a n(2)-n+1-dimensional manifold S-2n and the dimension of the maximal linear subspaces of S-2n is equal To the (Radon-Hurwitz) number of linearly independent vector fields on the sphere S2n-1. We provide a direct proof that for n odd S-2n has only one-dimensional linear submanifolds. We exhibit 2(c)-1-dimensional subspaces in dimensions which are multiples of 2(c), for c=1,2,3. In particular, we demonstrate that the seven-dimensional linear...
THE ENERGY LOCALIZATION PROBLEM AND THE RENORMALIZED VACUUM ENERGY IN STATIC ROBERTSON-WALKER UNIVERSES
BAYM, SS (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1994-10-01)
We calculate the renormalized quantum vacuum energy inside a spherical boundary for the massless conformal scalar field in curved background Robertson-Walker geometry. We use the mode sum method with an exponential cuttoff. In our calculations we do not make assumptions about the exterior geometry or the global topology of the universe.
The geometry of Ulrich bundles on del Pezzo surfaces
Coşkun, Emre; MUSTOPA, Yusuf (2013-02-01)
Given a smooth del Pezzo surface X-d subset of P-d of degree d, we isolate the essential geometric obstruction to a vector bundle on X-d being an Ulrich bundle by showing that an irreducible curve D of degree dr on X-d represents the first Chern class of a rank-r Ulrich bundle on X-d if and only if the kernel bundle of the general. smooth element of vertical bar D vertical bar admits a generalized theta-divisor. Moreover, we show that any smooth arithmetically Gorenstein surface whose Ulrich bundles admit s...
