This study evaluated the effectiveness of a sport-based intervention program that integrates sports with contact and conflict resolution training to improve intergroup relations of adolescents residing in Turkey. Thirty-two adolescents from central Turkey (Ankara) and 43 adolescents from the eastern Turkey (Hakkari) participated in the study. The intervention program included 13 weeks training and a 7-day mixed camp. A mixed-method approach was employed to assess its efficacy. Quantitative findings revealed that the intervention led to some degree of improvement in the conflict resolution capacities of adolescents. While the adolescents’ pretest scores on the Conflict Resolution Tendency Scale (CRTS)–Total were lower than their posttest scores, the mean scores on some subscales of CRTS did not yield a statistically significant increase from pretest to posttest. Qualitative analysis revealed 3 themes reflecting the efficacy of the intervention: increased conflict resolution capacities, improved intergroup relations, and facilitating program conditions. It also extends previous studies by considering Turkey as a field of application. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved)

The effect of conflict resolution training on Turkish elementary school students: A quasi-experimental investigation
ÇOBAN, REVAN; Güneri, Oya (2004-01-01)
This study investigated the effect of conflict resolution training on Turkish elementary school students' conflict resolution strategies. The participants were 54 fourth grade students. A pre-test, post-test, follow-up control group quasi-experimental design was used. Two 4th grade classes were selected out of three eligible 4th grade classes on the basis of Conflict Scenario Written Measure (Johnson, Johnson, & Dudley, 1992) and randomly assigned as control and experimental group. The experimental group co...

Hope as a Mediator of the Link Between Intimate Partner Violence and Suicidal Risk in Turkish Women: Further Evidence for the Role of Hope Agency
Muyan, Mine; Chang, Edward C. (2019-11-01)
The present study examined hope as a potential mediator of the association between intimate partner violence (IPV) and suicidal risk, namely, depression and suicide ideation, in a sample of 149 Turkish female college students. Results from conducting bootstrapped mediation analyses indicated that hope agency, but not hope pathways, mediated the link between IPV and suicidal risk in Turkish women. Importantly, the associations of IPV with both depression and suicide ideation became nonsignificant once hope w...
