This explanatory case study analyses student selection to English teaching programs in Turkey and suggests a new procedure. Students, teacher educators, and teachers from a language teaching department at a state university made up the study participants. Data were gathered through surveys and interviews, which were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics and content analysis. The results presented the strengths and weaknesses of the selection system and suggestions and implications for improvement. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
