This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0)Public spaces, being inevitable components of cities, are evolving spaces that transform, expand or shrink. Ideally, they should be publicly-owned and controlled, equally accessible to all, and function in the public interest. As the main actor of public spaces, this research aims to reveal the roles of pedestrians’ behaviour and mobility in making public space. It proposes a model to assess the mobility capacity and pedestrian behaviours regarding pre-determined inner and outer factors and indicators. The coastal park, which was developed through the coastal reclamation in Mersin that is a Mediterranean city in Turkey, is selected as the case study. The findings of the spatial morphological analyses, direct observations and users survey show that, while some areas in Mersin coastal park are used very effectively by pedestrians, some areas are not used sufficiently and remain idle. Based on the proposed model, this research reveals how pedestrian behaviour and movement affect the public space-making in the coastal park, and discusses the findings of the research in relation to the inner and outer factors of making public spaces. It ultimately seeks to show the critical role of the pedestrians’ behaviours and their mobility capacities in creating lively and high-quality public spaces.

Activity-Based Photosensitizers with Optimized Triplet State Characteristics Toward Cancer Cell Selective and Image Guided Photodynamic Therapy
Kilic, Eda; ELMAZOĞLU, ZÜBEYİR; Almammadov, Toghrul; KEPİL, DİLAY; Etienne, Thibaud; Marıon, Antoıne; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Kolemen, Safacan (2022-01-01)
© 2022 The Authors. Published by American Chemical Society.Activity-based theranostic photosensitizers are highly attractive in photodynamic therapy as they offer enhanced therapeutic outcome on cancer cells with an imaging opportunity at the same time. However, photosensitizers (PS) cores that can be easily converted to activity-based photosensitizers (aPSs) are still quite limited in the literature. In this study, we modified the dicyanomethylene-4H-chromene (DCM) core with a heavy iodine atom to get two ...
Techno-economic comparative analysis of renewable energy systems: Case study in Zimbabwe
Al-Ghussain, Loiy; Samu, Remember; Taylan, Onur; Fahrioglu, Murat (2020-09-01)
© 2020 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.Fluctuations in fossil fuel prices significantly affect the economies of countries, especially oil-importing countries, hence these countries are thoroughly investigating the increase in the utilization of renewable energy resources as it is abundant and locally available in all the countries despite challenges. Renewable energy systems (RES) such as solar and wind systems offer suitable alternatives for fossil fuels and could ensure the energy securi...
Friction space and the re(dis)covery of urban roads
Baş Bütüner, Funda; Guneri, Gizem Deniz (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited. For the majority of cities worldwide, car-based mobility has begun to be replaced by alternative mobility modes. This process has augmented the lens for infrastructural topics, and placed infrastructure's latent potentiality at the forefront. Car-dependent infrastructure, however, persists in and conditions urbanism in many others. For such cities, the encounter of roads with the city and human-scale spaces raises critical ground in n...
Linear and nonlinear optical characteristics of PbMoO4 single crystal for optoelectronic applications
Delice, S.; Isik, M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2022-10-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. In the present paper, we studied linear and nonlinear optical properties of lead molybdate (PbMoO4) single crystals grown by Czochralski method. Raman measurement was performed in the range of 50–1000 cm−1 and 11 active vibration modes were defined in the spectrum. The nature of the observed modes was discussed in detail. Optical absorption of the material was investigated utilizing room temperatu...

This study aimed to compare pregnancy outcomes of unvaccinated women infected with SARS-CoV-2 during the pre-Delta, Delta and Omicron waves...
