© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Within the scope of the study, the change occurring in the vegetation cover was examined in different temporal and spatial scales for in the example of Kırka boron mining site. Two different satellite images, namely Landsat and Sentinel, were utilized while the competence of these two satellite images were analyzed. Unsupervised classification and vegetation indexes have been used from remote sensing techniques. It was observed that the mining area boundary could not be determined using vegetation indexes, whereas unsupervised classification techniques showed that the miningral site occupies 1144.5 ha area. NDVI and NDRe analyses were conducted to determine the vegetation change outside the mining area. It has been determined that the analyses performed with the NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) and NDRe (normalized difference red edge index) indexes show different results on water surfaces, while they show similar results in rest of the areas. In NDVI analysis, it has been determined that the two satellite images gave similar results in NDVI analyses, while having higher spatial resolution, sentinel satellite images were able to capture more details.

Development of a three-dimensional basin model to evaluate the site effects in the tectonically active near-fault region of Gölyaka basin, Düzce, Turkey
Yousefi-Bavil, Karim; KOÇKAR, MUSTAFA KEREM; Akgün, Haluk (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.The high seismicity and tectonic activity of the study area located in a near-fault region in Gölyaka, Düzce, results in a bedrock geometry highly complex in the sense of faulting and deformation. This makes this area very challenging in terms of a site response study that would aid seismic hazard assessment. This study develops a basin model to evaluate the site effects in the tectonically formed Plio-Quaternary fluvial sedimentary layer...
Real-time measurement of laser beam characteristics for a waterjet-guided laser machine
Subasi, Levent; Gökler, Mustafa İlhan; Yaman, Ulaş (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.Waterjet-guided laser machining is a novel process used for precision cutting and drilling of various materials and geometries. There are many noise factors in the process affecting the laser beam characteristics, namely the effective cutting length and laser power in the waterjet. Although these variables are mainly set by the laser and waterjet parameters, uncontrollable factors result in variations. Pre...
Linear and nonlinear optical characteristics of PbMoO4 single crystal for optoelectronic applications
Delice, S.; Isik, M.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2022-10-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. In the present paper, we studied linear and nonlinear optical properties of lead molybdate (PbMoO4) single crystals grown by Czochralski method. Raman measurement was performed in the range of 50–1000 cm−1 and 11 active vibration modes were defined in the spectrum. The nature of the observed modes was discussed in detail. Optical absorption of the material was investigated utilizing room temperatu...
Predictive Design and Analysis of Drug Transport by MultiScale Computational Models Under Uncertainty
Akalın, Ali Aykut; Dedekargınoğlu, Barış; Choi, Sae Rome; Han, Bumsoo; Özçelikkale, Altuğ (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.Computational modeling of drug delivery is becoming an indispensable tool for advancing drug development pipeline, particularly in nanomedicine where a rational design strategy is ultimately sought. While numerous in silico models have been developed that can accurately describe nanoparticle interactions with the bioenvironment within prescribed length and time scales, predictive design of these d...
Modeling coastal Güzelyurt (Morphou) aquifer in northern Cyprus for mitigation of groundwater depletion through managed aquifer recharge
Demir, Cansu; Fanta, Debebe; Akıntuğ, Bertuğ; Ünlü, Kahraman (2022-08-01)
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Groundwater depletion is considered a global problem. Coastal aquifers in arid and semiarid areas of the Mediterranean basin constitute typical examples of depleted aquifers. Güzelyurt (Morphou) Aquifer, the most important water resource for northern Cyprus, faces the problems of groundwater depletion and degradation of water quality near the coast due to significant amounts of groundwater extraction to satisfy the high demand....
