Patterning in non convex strain gradient crystal plasticity
Geers, M G D; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Brekelmans, W A M (null; 2012-08-31)
During forming processes most metals develop cellular dislocation structures due to dislocation slip patterning from moderate strains onwards. Typical examples of dislocation microstructures are dislocation cells and dislocation walls. Patterning typically refers to the self organization of dislocations with formation of regions of high dislocation density (dislocation walls) which envelop areas of low dislocation density (dislocation cell interiors), also to be regarded as domains of high plastic slip and ...
Pattern Formation in Planned Urban Peripheries: A Typomorphological Approach for Design
Çalışkan, Olgu (IOS Press BV, 2009-01-01)
To ensure the quality of the Ph.D. research the Department introduced a special procedure for periodic evaluation: after a period of nine months the potential Ph.D. candidates are asked to present their research design, theoretical framework and methodological approach to the members of the Department and to an external review, drawn up by the professors of the Department and by external reviewer. Depending on the assessment of the review group, the candidates will have the opportunity to continue their res...
Pattern Reconfiguration of Microstrip Antennas by Controlling Slots in Its Ground Plane
Gök, Çaǧlar; Alatan, Lale (2022-01-01)
In this work, a pattern reconfigurable antenna with improved pattern diversity is proposed. The antenna is formed by placing a circular ring around a circular microstrip patch antenna and excited by using two feeds. The in-phase and out-of-phase excitation of these feeds provides conical beam and broadside radiation, respectively. Slots are introduced to the ground plane of the antenna to steer the main radiation direction in broadside radiation mode and to obtain asymmetric radiation in conical beam mode. ...
Pattern extraction by using both spatial and temporal features on Turkish meteorological data
Goler, Işıl; Yazıcı, Adnan; Karagöz, Pınar; Department of Computer Engineering (2010)
With the growth in the size of datasets, data mining has been an important research topic and is receiving substantial interest from both academia and industry for many years. Especially, spatio-temporal data mining, mining knowledge from large amounts of spatio-temporal data, is a highly demanding field because huge amounts of spatio-temporal data are collected in various applications. Therefore, spatio-temporal data mining requires the development of novel data mining algorithms and computational techniqu...
Patterned surface anchoring of nematic droplets at miscible liquid-liquid interfaces
Wang, Xiaoguang; Zhou, Ye; Kim, Young-Ki; Miller, Daniel S; Zhang, Rui; Martinez-Gonzalez, Jose A.; Büküşoğlu, Emre; Zhang, Bo; Brown, Thaddeus M; de Pablo, Juan Jose; Abbott, Nicholas L (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2017-09-14)
We report on the internal configurations of droplets of nematic liquid crystals (LCs; 10-50 mu m-in-diameter; comprised of 4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl and 4-(3-acryloyloxypropyloxy) benzoic acid 2-methyl-1,4-phenylene ester) sedimented from aqueous solutions of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) onto interfaces formed with pure glycerol. We observed a family of internal LC droplet configurations and topological defects consistent with a remarkably abrupt transition from homeotropic (perpendicular) to tangential anc...
