In this study, seismic roof isolation solutions were investigated with a case study of Halkapınar Gymnasium, izmir. In the first part, seismic isolation was explanied and philosophy behind it was given. In the second part, existing seismic roof isolators, elastomeric bearing and viscous damper, were investigated with different support isolation combinations. In the third part, two more types of seismic isolators, lead rubber bearing and friction pendulum isolators, were also analyzed by using the same model and all results were compared with each other and that of non-isolated roof system. Furthermore, bilinear effect of the non-linear isolators were also studied. Finally, all results were compared with each other considering structure responses and effectiveness of the seismic isolators. It has been tried to find the most efficient seismic isolation solution for Halkapınar Gymnasium. .

Upgrading of slab-column connections using fiber reinforced polymers
Binici, Barış (Elsevier BV, 2005-01-01)
The results of an experimental program on upgrading of reinforced concrete slab-column connections subjected to monotonic shear and unbalanced moment transfer are presented in this study. Externally installed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) stirrups acting as shear reinforcement around the slab-column connection area were used with two patterns of CFRP arrangements. It was found that the proposed method resulted in punching shear capacity increases up to 60% relative to the specimen without any stren...
Fragility based assessment of lowrise and midrise reinforced concrete frame buildings in Turkey
Ay, Bekir Özer; Erberik, Murat Altuğ; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
In this study, structural vulnerability of reinforced concrete frame structures by considering the countryspecific characteristics is investigated to manage the earthquake risk and to develop strategies for disaster mitigation. Lowrise and midrise reinforced concrete structures, which constitute approximately 75% of the total building stock in Turkey, are focused in this fragilitybased assessment. The seismic design of 3, 5, 7 and 9story reinforced concrete frame structures are carried out according to the ...
Fragility based assessment of lowrise and midrise reinforced concrete frame buildings in turkey using Düzce damage database
Özün, Ahsen; Erberik, Murat Altuğ; Department of Civil Engineering (2007)
In this study, the seismic fragility assessment of low-rise and mid-rise reinforced concrete frame buildings which constitute approximately 75 % of the total building stock in Turkey is investigated to quantify the earthquake risk. The inventory used in this study is selected from Düzce damage database which was compiled after the devastating 1999 earthquakes in the Marmara region. These buildings are not designed according to the current code regulations and the supervision in the construction phase is not...
Performance of a precast concrete beam-to-beam connection subject to reversed cyclic loading
Korkmaz, HH; Tankut, T (Elsevier BV, 2005-08-01)
This study was performed as one phase of an extensive research program focusing on the seismic behaviour of precast connections carried out in Middle East Technical University. The primary objective of the research program was to observe and investigate the seismic behaviour of the connection detail proposed by the collaborating company and the specimens with improved details, in order to develop a 11 moment resisting precast concrete beam-to-beam connection". In this study, six beam-beam connection subasse...
Seismic design of cold formed teel structures in residential applications
Uygar, Celaletdin; Yılmaz, Çetin; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
In this study, lateral load bearing capacities of cold formed steel framed wall panels are investigated. For this purpose lateral load bearing alternatives are analyzed numerically by computer models and results are compared with already done experimental studies and approved codes. In residential cold formed steel construction, walls are generally covered with cladding material like oriented strand board (OSB) or plywood on the exterior wall surface and these sheathed light gauge steel walls behave as shea...
