In this master thesis study, new inventory control mechanisms are developed for the repairables in Nedtrain. There is a multi-item, multi echelon system with a continuous review and one for one replenishment policy and there are different demand supply options in each control mechanism. There is an aggregate mean waiting time constraint in each local warehouse and the objective is to minimize the total system cost. The base stock levels in each warehouse are determined with an approximation method. Then different demand supply options are compared with each other. ttings.

Material flow cost versus congestion in dynamic distributed facility layout problem
Özen, Aykut; Özdemirel, Nur Evin; Department of Industrial Engineering (2008)
In this thesis, we study both dynamic and distributed facility layout problems, where the demand for product mix changes over time. We propose a new simulated annealing algorithm, SALAB, for the dynamic facility layout problem. Four variants of SALAB find the best known solution for 20 of the 48 benchmark problems from the literature, improving upon the best known solutions of 18 problems. We modify SALAB to obtain DSALAB, solving the dynamic distributed facility layout problem with the objective of minimiz...
Tool allocation in flexible manufacturing systems with tool alternatives
Buyurgan, N; Saygin, C; Kilic, SE (Elsevier BV, 2004-08-01)
In this paper, a heuristic approach for tool selection in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) is presented. The proposed approach utilizes the ratio of tool life over tool size (LIS) for tool selection and allocation. The proposed method selects tool types with high LIS ratios by considering tool alternatives for the operations assigned to each machine. The performance of the method is demonstrated in sample problems as static examples, as well as in a simulation study for further analysis. This study also...
Software engineering process improvement
Sezer, Bülent; Bilgen, Semih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
This thesis presents a software engineering process improvement study. The literature on software process improvement is reviewed. Then the current design verification process at one of the Software Engineering Departments of the X Company, Ankara, Türkiye (SED) is analyzed. Static software development process metrics have been calculated for the SED based on a recently proposed approach. Some improvement suggestions have been made based on the metric values calculated according to the proposals of that stu...
Verification of Modular Diagnosability With Local Specifications for Discrete-Event Systems
Schmidt, Klaus Verner (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-09-01)
In this paper, we study the diagnosability verification for modular discrete-event systems (DESs), i.e., DESs that are composed of multiple components. We focus on a particular modular architecture, where each fault in the system must be uniquely identified by the modular component where it occurs and solely based on event observations of that component. Hence, all diagnostic computations for faults to be detected in this architecture can be performed locally on the respective modular component, and the obt...
Optimum design and operation of 'a pump-piping-storage system'
Kaplan, H; Seireg, A; Dölen, Melik (Inderscience Publishers, 2001-01-01)
The study reported in this paper is undertaken to develop a computer simulation and an optimum design and operation strategy for a general storage system. The influence of various design parameters on the total operation cost of the system for a general delivery regime is also studied.
