Creativity is considered important in design methods yet they do not give enough courage to designer for being more creative in design process. The reason, why this courage taking from designer, stems from the complexity of production and planning process of modern world and designer needs to analyze every data in order to provide best solution for every agent’s needs. Designer starts to be a connector between agents, instead of being creative and experiencing new knowledge from the design process. Attempt to solve this problem, new method, which requires error in the process of design as catalyzer, can be used for gaining knowledge from inexperienced area. Designer reaches an unbounded environment, free from being a connector between agents in order to inspire from new knowledge and be more creative.

The role of design brief in urban design competitions
Kabal, Emre; Sargın, Güven Arif; Department of Architecture (2008)
Design brief is the descriptive and connective medium of design competitions. The main aim (design problem) of the design competition is explained by means of design brief which is setting up all needs and requirements or design program (specification) which is explaining the requirement list. The definition of design problem should be formulated to make clear statements in order to avoid misapprehensions by forming creative environment to enable creation of new ideas. The communication processes are compos...
Atlas of urban design: textual analysis and mapping of production of knowledge in Turkish context
Acar, Yiğit; Sargın, Güven Arif; Department of Architecture (2017)
Urban design is a field of design practice that can also be seen as a discipline in making as it is still developing its own methodical tools and episteme. This study examines the Turkish academia as a case for the formation of urban design knowledge, through a series of analysis on the corpus of knowledge that has been produced for the last three decades. In this sense, “The Atlas of Urban Design Knowledge” is a study on the formation of the field of urban design within the Turkish academia in terms of its...
Analogical Models In Architecture And Urban Design
Abel, Chris (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1988)
In an earlier article, "Function of Tacit Knowing in Learning to Design!' (Abel, 1981c), I suggested that design researchers need to pay more attention to the way architects actually create their designs, rather than relying on the idealized models of design processes dreamed up by themselves. This article is intended to help fill that need, and outlines the major types of analogical models used by architects, together with some straightforward explanations of the main concepts involved. The assumptive phil...
Speculations on the city in architectural drawing: dogma as a contemporary critique
Karaköy, Nilay; Kömez Dağlıoğlu, Esin; Department of Architecture (2022-8-29)
Drawings have become a potential design tool in architecture, not limited to the representation of the object. Since they are more than representations of their objects, they become a conceptual model of reality rather than a reproduction. For this reason, the drawings are not limited to architectural objects, they are also related to the context in which the design is built, namely the city. Constructed with a particularly dense pattern of roads and buildings, the modern city has been an important part of ...
DRAWING TECHNIQUES ON THE DESIGN CONCEPT PHASE: AN ANALYSIS OF BRAZILIAN, JAPANESE AND TURKISH STUDENTS' STRATEGIES
Torrezzan, Cristina; Van der Linden, Julio; Bohemia, Erik; Kaygan, Pınar; Bernardes, Mauricio (2019-01-01)
Professionals such as product designers, architects, and engineers have an intrinsic relationship with drawing, using it to represent everything from the creative sketches of a proposal to its production. In this sense, technical drawing and sketching techniques are a relevant part of design education. In this context, this article presents an analysis of drawings developed by product design students from different countries working in the Global Studio 2018, an international interinstitutional project. In ...
