The karyIn this study cytogenetic analysis were carried out on Garra variabilis (Heckel, 1843) individuals from Savur stream (Mardin). The karyotype of G. variabilis was analyzed using G-banding, C-banding, Ag-NOR staining and Q-banding techniques. Diploid chromosomes number of specimens was determined as 2n=102. However, two karyotype formulae were identified in the G. variabdis specimens: female 42m+18sm+24st+18a (FN = 186) and males 41m+18sm+24t+19a (FN = 185). Nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were identified by silver nitrate staining. NOR regions were observed on many chromosome pairs. The largest chromosome pair was defined as submetacentric. The detail karyotype of G. variabdis is reported for the first time.bdis is reported for the first time.

Cytogenetic analysis of Pseudophoxinus antalyae, Bogustkaya, 1992 (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from the Eastern Mediterranean River Basin, Turkey
Ergene, Serap; Karahan, Arzu; Kuru, Mustafa (2010-01-01)
The karyotype of Pseudophoxinus antalyae was analyzed using G-banding, C-banding, Ag-NOR staining, and Q-banding. Chromosome analysis of this species, which lives in the Berdan River and Berdan Dam Lake, was performed with the air-drying technique, using gill and fin epithelium cells. The diploid chromosome number of P antalyae was determined to be 2n = 50, comprising 16 metacentric, 14 submetacentric, 12 subtelocentric, and 8 acrocentric (NF = 92) chromosomes. The largest chromosome pair of the complements...
Cytogenetic Variation of Geographically Isolated Four Populations of Garra rufa [(Heckel, 1843) (Pisces, Cyprinidae)] in Turkey
Karahan, Arzu (2009-10-01)
This paper describes the karyotype analysis of Garra rufa samples with G-, C- banding and Ag-NOR staining techniques from four distinct localities (Mersin, Hatay, Kahramanmaras and Sivas) in Turkey. The diploid chromosomes number was found as 50 in females of both Mersin and Sivas regions samples. The karyotype was determined as 26M + 10SM + 8ST + 6A chromosome and fundamental number (NF) 94 in Mersin and 28M + 14SM + 4ST + 4A chromosome (NF=96) in Sivas regions samples. Diploid chromosomes number both Hata...
Chromosomal differentiation between populations of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) from the Goksu Delta and Orontes River (Turkey)
Karahan, Arzu (2011-01-01)
The karyotype of Clarias gariepinus was described by means of G-banding, C-banding, Q-banding, and Ag-NORs (NORs) staining in this study. Samples were collected from 2 regions of Turkey: the Goksu Delta and Orontes River. Although samples from both regions had the same diploid chromosome number and fundamental arm number, (2n = 56, FN = 100), they had remarkable differences in karyotype formula and distribution of rDNA sites, according to silver nitrate staining and G-banding. While the karyotype formula fo...
Microstructure, microhardness, and biocompatibility characteristics of yttrium hydroxyapatite doped with fluoride
Toker, S. M.; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Evis, Zafer (Wiley, 2011-02-01)
The current study focused on doping of hydroxyapatite (HA) with constant yttrium (Y3+) and varying fluoride (F-) compositions to investigate its microstructure, microhardness, and biocompatibility. HA was synthesized by precipitation method and sintered at 1100 degrees C for 1 h. Y3+ and F- ion dopings resulted in changes in densities. In x-ray diffraction analysis, no secondary phase formation was observed. Lattice parameters decreased upon ion substitutions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results show...
Genetic and physiology of cold and drought resistance in Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia, Ten.) populations from southern Turkey
Kandemir, Gaye Eren; Kaya, Zeki; Önde, Sertaç; Department of Biology (2002)
The purpose of the study was to determine the pattern of genetic variation in morphological and physiological traits associated with cold and drought stress using seedling from over-exploited and natural populations of Pinus brutia Ten. (Turkish red pine) from southern Turkey. To determine the pattern of genetic variation existing in over-exploited and natural populations, seedlings from 6 populations each with 40 families were raised in Ankara forest nursery from 1998-2000. Three of the populations (Yaylaa...
