Cytogenetic Variation of Geographically Isolated Four Populations of Garra rufa [(Heckel, 1843) (Pisces, Cyprinidae)] in Turkey

2009-10-01
This paper describes the karyotype analysis of Garra rufa samples with G-, C- banding and Ag-NOR staining techniques from four distinct localities (Mersin, Hatay, Kahramanmaras and Sivas) in Turkey. The diploid chromosomes number was found as 50 in females of both Mersin and Sivas regions samples. The karyotype was determined as 26M + 10SM + 8ST + 6A chromosome and fundamental number (NF) 94 in Mersin and 28M + 14SM + 4ST + 4A chromosome (NF=96) in Sivas regions samples. Diploid chromosomes number both Hatay and Kahramanmaras regions male and female samples were described as 46. The karyotype of Hatay region female samples was included 22M + 12SM + 8ST + 4A (NF=88) chromosome and male 22M + 12SM + 7ST + 5A chromosome (NF=87). The karyotype of Kahramanmaras region female samples was included 32M + 6SM + 6ST + 2A chromosomes (NF=90) and male 31M + 6SM + 6ST + 3A chromosomes (NF=89). The male presented a pair of differentiated heteromorphic chromosomes, characterizing as XX/XY sex chromosome system of Kahramanmaras and Hatay region samples. The comparative analysis revealed intraspecific variability of NORs and fixed differences in their number in the four populations. The results are compared with data available for populations from native geographic ranges.

Cytogenetic analysis of Pseudophoxinus antalyae, Bogustkaya, 1992 (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from the Eastern Mediterranean River Basin, Turkey
Ergene, Serap; Karahan, Arzu; Kuru, Mustafa (2010-01-01)
The karyotype of Pseudophoxinus antalyae was analyzed using G-banding, C-banding, Ag-NOR staining, and Q-banding. Chromosome analysis of this species, which lives in the Berdan River and Berdan Dam Lake, was performed with the air-drying technique, using gill and fin epithelium cells. The diploid chromosome number of P antalyae was determined to be 2n = 50, comprising 16 metacentric, 14 submetacentric, 12 subtelocentric, and 8 acrocentric (NF = 92) chromosomes. The largest chromosome pair of the complements...
Chromosomal differentiation between populations of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) from the Goksu Delta and Orontes River (Turkey)
Karahan, Arzu (2011-01-01)
The karyotype of Clarias gariepinus was described by means of G-banding, C-banding, Q-banding, and Ag-NORs (NORs) staining in this study. Samples were collected from 2 regions of Turkey: the Goksu Delta and Orontes River. Although samples from both regions had the same diploid chromosome number and fundamental arm number, (2n = 56, FN = 100), they had remarkable differences in karyotype formula and distribution of rDNA sites, according to silver nitrate staining and G-banding. While the karyotype formula fo...
Genetic relationships among perennial and annual Cicer species growing in Turkey assessed by AFLP fingerprinting
Sudupak, MA; Akkaya, Mahinur; Kence, A (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2004-03-01)
AFLP markers were used to assess genetic relationships among Cicer species with distribution in Turkey. Genetic distances were computed among 47 Cicer accessions representing four perennial and six annual species including chickpea, using 306 positions on AFLP gels. AFLP-based grouping of species revealed two clusters, one of which includes three perennial species, Cicer montbretii, Cicer isauricum and Cicer anatolicum, while the other cluster consists of two subclusters, one including one perennial, Cicer ...
Estimation of phytoplankton biomass using HPLC pigment analysis in the southwestern Black Sea
Ediger, D.; Soydemir, N.; Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan (2006-01-01)
The phytoplankton population of the southwestern Black Sea in May 2001 was studied by taxonomic analysis using microscopic examination and by pigment analyses using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Pigment data, which identified phytoplankton assemblages dominated by dinoflagellates, diatoms and coccolithophores in May 2001, were compared to phytoplankton cell counts and biomass. There were significant (p < 0.002-0.01, r=0.56-0.67) relationships between the taxon-specific pigment concentration...
Morphometric, mtdna and microsatellite analysis in honeybee populations (apis mellifera L.) of north and northwest İran
Farhoud, Houman Jabbari; Kence, Meral; Department of Biotechnology (2004)
Morphometric measurements, mitochondrial DNA analyses and 5 microsatellite loci were used to investigate variation in the honeybee populations of Iran and comparing it with the Turkish populations. Five honeybee populations were sampled from North and west north of Iran. In morphometric aspect of the study 23 characters were measured from left forewings and hindlegs of honey bee samples. The data were analysed by multivariate statistical analyses. By using mtDNA analyses length polymorphism of the intergeni...
