Chromosomal differentiation between populations of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) from the Goksu Delta and Orontes River (Turkey)

2011-01-01
The karyotype of Clarias gariepinus was described by means of G-banding, C-banding, Q-banding, and Ag-NORs (NORs) staining in this study. Samples were collected from 2 regions of Turkey: the Goksu Delta and Orontes River. Although samples from both regions had the same diploid chromosome number and fundamental arm number, (2n = 56, FN = 100), they had remarkable differences in karyotype formula and distribution of rDNA sites, according to silver nitrate staining and G-banding. While the karyotype formula for Orontes River samples was 24m + 10sm + 10st + 12a, the Goksu Delta samples' was 28m + 6sm + 10st + 12a. Comparative analysis showed that there was intraspecific variability in NORs and different NOR numbers in the 2 populations. The study's findings show that the Goksu Delta and Orontes River samples differed from each other.

Cytogenetic analysis of Pseudophoxinus antalyae, Bogustkaya, 1992 (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from the Eastern Mediterranean River Basin, Turkey
Ergene, Serap; Karahan, Arzu; Kuru, Mustafa (2010-01-01)
The karyotype of Pseudophoxinus antalyae was analyzed using G-banding, C-banding, Ag-NOR staining, and Q-banding. Chromosome analysis of this species, which lives in the Berdan River and Berdan Dam Lake, was performed with the air-drying technique, using gill and fin epithelium cells. The diploid chromosome number of P antalyae was determined to be 2n = 50, comprising 16 metacentric, 14 submetacentric, 12 subtelocentric, and 8 acrocentric (NF = 92) chromosomes. The largest chromosome pair of the complements...
Bioproduction, structure elucidation and in vitro antiproliferative effect of eumelanin pigment from Streptomyces parvus BSB49
Bayram, Sinan; Dengiz, Çağatay; GERÇEK, Yusuf Can; ÇETİN, İdil; TOPÇUL, Mehmet Rıfkı (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-01-01)
In this study, the structure of the purified extracellular eumelanin pigment isolated from Streptomyces spp. was elucidated by detailed analysis via two different spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR and NMR). In vitro antiproliferative effects of eumelanin were evaluated on HeLa cell line. These experiments were carried out with the evaluation of the parameters including cell viability, cell index, and mitotic index. With the cell viability and cell index, IC50 concentration of eumelanin was determined as 10 μM...
Cytogenetic Variation of Geographically Isolated Four Populations of Garra rufa [(Heckel, 1843) (Pisces, Cyprinidae)] in Turkey
Karahan, Arzu (2009-10-01)
This paper describes the karyotype analysis of Garra rufa samples with G-, C- banding and Ag-NOR staining techniques from four distinct localities (Mersin, Hatay, Kahramanmaras and Sivas) in Turkey. The diploid chromosomes number was found as 50 in females of both Mersin and Sivas regions samples. The karyotype was determined as 26M + 10SM + 8ST + 6A chromosome and fundamental number (NF) 94 in Mersin and 28M + 14SM + 4ST + 4A chromosome (NF=96) in Sivas regions samples. Diploid chromosomes number both Hata...
Detailed chromosome measurements and karyotype asymmetry of some Vicia (Fabaceae) taxa from Turkey
MARTİN, ESRA; Yildiz, Hatice Kubra; KAHRAMAN, AHMET; Binzat, Okan Kaan; EROĞLU, HALİL ERHAN (2018-01-01)
This study examined the detailed chromosome measurements and karyotype asymmetries of seven taxa in the genus Vicia. The taxa are V. articulata, V. cassubica, V. villosa subsp. villosa in sect. Cracca, V. noeana var. noeana, V. sativa subsp. sativa, V. peregrina in sect. Vicia and V. caesarea in sect. Ervum. V. cassubica, V. noeana var. noeana, V. sativa subsp. sativa, V. caesarea have 2n = 12 chromosomes. V. articulata, V. villosa subsp. villosa, V. peregrina have 2n = 14 chromosomes in somatic cells. Tota...
Assignment of biological functions to specific plasmids in a local isolate of Rhizobium cicer
Yıldız, Eda; Özcengiz, Gülay; İçgen, Bülent; Alaeddınoglu, Ng (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1999-01-01)
The genetic basis of symbiosis, mucoid structure and melanin biosynthesis in a local isolate of Rhizobium cicer was investigated. The strain was avery effective symbiont and produced substantial amounts of exopolysaccharides and melanin. It harbored three high-molar-mass plasmids of 55, 80 and 130 kb, respectively. Thirty-one melanin production-negative (Mep(-)) derivatives were obtained through plasmid curing. The plasmid patterns of cured derivatives indicated that the loss of 55 and/or 80 kb plasmids was...
