X band High Power Ferrite Phase Shifter

2010-08-27
X-Band high power, low loss and fast switching twin-toroid type ferrite phase shifter is designed and fabricated. Differential phase shift (DPS), insertion loss, high power characteristics and impedance matching are determined and optimized using finite element solver in CST Microwave Studio. The effect of high order modes propagating in the structure is examined and methods to suppress these modes are investigated. <;0.8dB insertion loss and >15dB return loss is obtained for all phase states and operating temperature range in 12% bandwidth at X-Band. Switching time smaller than 10us is achieved using a digitally controlled high current driver circuit.

Wideband phase shifter design using lange coupler and radial stubs
Boyacioǧlu, Gökhan; Demir, Şimşek (2010-12-20)
In this study, four wideband phase shifter circuits are designed and simulated for 6-18 GHz frequency range. Phase shifters are separately designed in order to get 11.25°, 22.5°, 45° and 90° phase shifts with minimum phase error and low return losses. Thin film production technique will be used to fabricate individual phase shifter circuits. Designs and EM simulations are performed by using Sonnet and ADS2008®. © 2010 IEEE.
S-band hybrid 4 bit phase shifter
Erkek, Eser; Demir, Şimşek (2010-12-20)
S-band hybrid 4 bit phase shifter of 22.5° phase resolution is designed, simulated, fabricated and measured. Bits are separately designed to maintain low phase errors and return loss. In this manner, fabrication and measurements are performed for each bit. These measurements are carried on since each bit reached to its acceptable level of operation. According to the outcomes and acquired knowledge, layout for optimum cascading of 4 bits is developed. Measurement results are compared with simulations and rep...
X-band high power ferrite phase shifters
Altan, Hakkı İlhan; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
Ferrite phase shifters are key components of passive phased array antenna systems. In a modern radar system, microwave components in the transmit path should handle high microwave power levels. Also low loss operation in phase shifters is critical, since radar range depends on the microwave power transmitted from the antennas. In this respect, ferrite phase shifters provide required performance characteristics for phased array radar systems. In this thesis, Reggia-Spencer type and twin-toroid type ferrite p...
X-band RF switch implementation in substrate integrated waveguide
Erdöl, Tuncay; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
An RF switch in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology for X-band is designed and demonstrated. Design is based on embedding shunt pin diodes of the switch in an evanescent mode waveguide filter. At reverse bias, pin diodes formed a part of filter's capacitances. Thus switch also functions as a filter when it is in “on” state. At forward bias of diodes, capacitances of the filter are short circuited to obtain a good isolation. The same circuit structure is used to design a tunable filter and an RF ...
Low voltage DC-DC conversion without magnetic components for energy harvesting
Pathirana, W. P. M. R.; Muhtaroglu, Ali (2012-12-05)
A novel interface circuit topology with power management is presented for ultra-low voltage DC-DC step-up conversion. The proposed 90 nm CMOS circuit avoids off-chip components or non-standards processes, and is suitable for ultra-low voltage system-on-chip applications. Comparative analysis was performed with a commercial low voltage DC-DC converter to identify the relative advantages and disadvantages of the integrated approach. The circuit can be started up from input voltage as low as 0.2V based on the ...
