Radiation-induced and electroinitiated polymerization of allylbenzene has been investigated. Radiation-induced polymerization at room temperature was found to give mainly dimers and trimers with a maximum yield of 5%. Electroinitiated polymerization of the monomer yielded insoluble polymer films on the surface of the anode together with low molecular weight polymers in the bulk solution. The effects of temperature and monomer concentration on the rate of electroinitiated polymerization were also studied. The decrease in monomer concentration during electroinitiated polymerization was studied by taking cyclic voltammograms of the electrolysis solution. An apparent activation energy of 5.5 kJ mol−1 was found for the electroinitiated polymerization. The polymers were characterized by taking infra-red and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. The polymerization proceeds via double bond addition of monomer together with isomerization of allylbenzene into β-methylstyrene.

Thermal polymerization of bis(4-fluoro-2,6-dibromophenolato)bis(pyridine)copper(II) complex in solution and in solid state
Kisakurek, D; Akbas, M; Bilir, N (Wiley, 1998-02-01)
The synthesis of the bis(4-fluoro-2,6-dibromophenolato)bis(pyridine)copper(II) complex was achieved from aqueous solution, and its characterization was performed by means-of IR and CHN elemental analysis. Thermal polymerization of this complex was carried out in toluene and in solid state. The structural analysis of the polymers was performed with H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and FTIR analysis; the glass transition temperature was found to be at 160 degrees C. 4-Fluoro-2,6-dibromophenolate, with the non-chelating liga...
SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLY(DICHLOROPHENYLENE OXIDE)S BASED ON THE ELECTROOXIDATION OF BIS(2,4,6-TRICHLOROPHENOXO)BIS(PYRIDINE)COPPER(II) COMPLEX
SEN, S; KISAKUREK, D (Elsevier BV, 1993-01-01)
Electroinitiated polymerization of bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxo)bis(pyridine)copper(II) complex was achieved in dimethylformamide by constant potential electrolysis under air and N2. The polymers obtained at several potentials were characterized by H-1 n.m.r., C-13 n.m.r., FTi.r. and d.s.c., and were found to be branched. The kinetics of the polymerization were followed by in situ cyclic voltammetry measurements at 13.5 and 20-degrees-C during electrolysis. As found for the thermal polymerization of this comp...
POLYMERIZATION OF BIS(2-BROMO-4,6-DICHLOROPHENOXO)BIS(PYRIDINE) COPPER (II) COMPLEX IN DMF BY ELECTROINITIATION
KISAKUREK, D; SEN, S; ARAS, L; TURKER, L; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 1991-01-01)
Polymerization of bis(2-bromo-4,6-dichlorophenoxo)bis(pyridine) copper (II) complex was achieved in dimethylformamide by electrooxidation. A cyclic voltammogram (CV) of the complex was obtained in dimethylformamide in advance. Constant potential yielded polymers in anode compartment only under nitrogen atmosphere and air. In the final polymer product, incorporation of neither the ligand nor the copper was observed and the post-polymerization proceeded in the absence of current. The structural analyses o...
Radiation-induced solid-state copolymerization in binary acrylamide-maleic anhydride systems
Nugay, T.; Küçükyavuz, S. (Elsevier BV, 1990-5)
γ-Ray-initiated copolymerization of acrylamide and maleic anhydride was studied in the solid state at 25°C. The polymeric product was found to be free of the homopolymers. The mole fraction of acrylamide in the monomer mixture was varied from 0.33 to 0.91. The copolymerization reached a ‘limiting conversion’ the value of which was dependent on the composition of the monomer feed. The mole fraction of maleic anhydride in the copolymers did not exceed 0.50 and the compositions of copolymers obtained from acry...
Optical and electroluminescent properties of polyfluorene copolymers and their blends
Çırpan, Ali; KARASZ, Frank E. (Elsevier BV, 2005-01-26)
Light emitting properties of several polyfluorene (PF) copolymers (P1-P4) and their blends have been investigated. Light emitting diodes were fabricated with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al. The EL peak wavelengths were 421 nut (violet), 505, 513 nm (green) and 570 nm (yellow) for PF copolymers and 510,535 nm (green) for P1/P2 and P1/P3 blends, respectively. Forster energy transfer in the photoluminescence and electroluminescence of the polymer blends P1/P2 and P1/P3 was studied. The LED us...
