Effect of gap distance on the mechanical properties and cross-sectional characteristics of the MIG-MAG butt wells
Kaşıkçı, İlker; Ankara, Osman Alpay; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2003)
This study was undertaken with the objective of determining the effect of gap distance on the weld bead geometry and the mechanical properties of the weldments. Low-alloyed and low carbon steel plates were welded under different conditions where each weldment had different gap distance and weld bead grooves. The influences of welding parameters namely, welding speed, current and voltage on the weld bead were examined in terms of weld bead penetration and heat affected zone and weld metal zone hardness varia...
Effect of differential lubrication on the cup drawing of mild steel blanks
Atala, H. (Elsevier BV, 1990-7)
Cup-drawing test have been performed on mild steel blanks to study the frictional behaviour of the flanges in a cup-drawing operation, by utilizing differential lubrication. Molybdenum disulphide paste has been chosen as the lubricant because of its good performance in preliminary trials. The results suggest that lubrication of the flange is essential in the achievement of a fully drawn cup without failure and without wrinkles. It can also be stated that lubricant application to central regions appears to b...
Effect of Dry Friction Damping on the Dynamic Response of Helicopter Tail Shaft
Ozaydin, Onur; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (2017-02-02)
Tail Drive Shaft of a helicopter transmits torque from the main gear box to the tail rotor and in most of the helicopter designs, tail shafts are designed to work in supercritical speeds. In order to limit resonance vibrations of the tail drive shaft, dry friction dampers can be used. Therefore, in order to study the effect of dry friction damping on the response of tail drive shaft, a mathematical model is developed. The tail drive shaft is modeled as a beam by using Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Bearings s...
