A perylenedimiide (PDI) derivative functionalized at the perylene core (bay region) to carry phenyl boronic acid groups was shown to interact with fluoride with changes in the emission and absorption spectrum. These changes are most likely due to fluoride-induced aggregation and/or quenching of the perylenediimide dye. The dye is also selective; among halide ions, fluoride anions generate a significant response. Thus, this class of PDI derivatives is likely to be useful in practical fluoride sensing.

Reboxetine (RBX) electrochemical redox behavior at hanging mercury drop (HMDE) and glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) was studied in various pH Britton-Robinson universal buffers using cyclic voltammetry and square-wave voltammetry. A heptamethine cyanine-BAPTA conjugate was synthesized which signals calcium binding by an almost 4-fold increase in the emission intensity at the emission maximum of 782 nm. This significant enhancement factor opens new possibilities for the development of IR fluorescent chemosensors excitable with an inexpensive 780 nm laser diode and detectable with highly sensitive avalanche diodes.
