Studies on flame retardancy of polyacrylonitrile fiber treated by flame-retardant monomers in cold plasma
Akovalı, G; Gündogan, G (Wiley, 1990)
Plasma polymer hexamethyldisiloxane, ethyldichlorophosphate and tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate modified polyacrylonitrile fibers were examined by FTIR, XRF, and SEM and the extend of flame retardancy introduced were checked. Certain levels of concentrations of flame‐retardant elements grafted or coated at the fiber surface during plasma treatment are believed to overcome some negative effects of a number of reactions that usually are concurrent with plasma polymerization, such as crosslinking.
A non-iterative pressure based algorithm for the computation of reacting radiating flows
Uygur, Ahmet Bilge; Selçuk, Nevin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2007)
A non-iterative pressure based algorithm which consists of splitting the solution of momentum energy and species equations into a sequence of predictor-corrector stages was developed for the simulation of transient reacting radiating flows. A semi-discrete approach called the Method of Lines (MOL) which enables implicit time-integration at all splitting stages was used for the solution of conservation equations. The solution of elliptic pressure equation for the determination of pressure field was performed...
Investigations on the biodegradable polymeric and inorganic substrates for controlled drug delivery and bone and cartilage repair
Günay, Aycan; Bayramlı, Erdal; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2008)
Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to address the needs by applying the principles of chemistry, biology and engineering for the development of viable substitutes that restore and maintain the function of human bone and cartilage tissues. In tissue engineering, scaffolds play an important role as temporary supports for the transplantation of specific cells and tissues. In this study, poly(ester-urethane)urea (PEUU) and poly(caprolactone) (PCL) scaffolds were fabricated. Scaffolds we...
Novel donor-acceptor type polymers towards excellent neutral state green polymeric materials for realization of RGB based electrochromic device applications
Günbaş, Görkem Emrullah; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Department of Chemistry (2007)
Polymers having one of the three complementary colors (red, green, and blue) in the reduced state and high transmissivity in the oxidized state are key materials towards use in electrochromic devices and displays. Although many neutral state red and blue polymers were reported up to date, neutral state green polymeric materials appear to be limited. For potential application of electrochromic materials in display technologies, one should have to create the entire color spectrum and this can be only achieved...
Development and analysis of controlled release polymeric rods containing vancomycin
Tağıt, Oya; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biotechnology (2005)
Antibiotic use is a vital method for the treatment of most diseases involving bacterial infections. Unfortunately, in certain cases these agents are not effective in treatments against diseases for either some limitation in antibiotic usage because of the side effects or some distribution problems caused by physiological or pathological barriers in the body. Such problems are thought to be minimized by development of controlled release systems which involve implantation of antibiotic loaded polymeric system...
