This study focuses on the development of a feasible, low-cost, and reliable electrodeposition technique for metal (Ti and Mn) oxide-based active memristive layers on Ti. The developed deposition process is based on Mn(CH3SO3)(2)-assisted anodic oxidation of Ti via cyclic voltammetry in 100 mM Methanesulfonic acid (CH3SO3H) aqueous solution. According to our experimental observations, the use of Mn2+ as an additive can promote the anodic oxidation of Ti and enables the deposition of thicker oxide layers as compared to the deposits obtained without additives. Various concentrations of Mn2+ are elaborated in this study, and the resulting thicknesses are evaluated using reflectometry, cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and depth-profiling X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Accordingly, 10 mM Mn2+ in the solution yields the deposition of manganese oxide (MnOx), whereas the solution with 100 mM Mn2+ promotes the deposition of thicker titanium oxide (TiOx), as compared to the solution without Mn2+. Surface morphologies of the structures are identified using both Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Memristive characteristics of the resulting thin films are examined using a sandwich configuration formed by Ag/Metal-Oxide/Ti/Au. Current-Voltage measurements show characteristic memristor bow-tie hysteresis for Ag/TiOx/Ti/Au and Schottky barrier related rectifying properties in specific voltage ranges for Ag/MnOx/Ti/Au structures. Zinc Oxide Nanostructures and High Electron Mobility Nanocomposite Thin Film Transistors
Li, Flora M.; Hsieh, Gen-Wen; Dalal, Sharvari; Newton, Marcus C.; Stott, James E.; Hiralal, Pritesh; Nathan, Arokia; Warburton, Paul A.; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Beecher, Paul; Flewitt, Andrew J.; Robinson, Ian; Amaratunga, Gehan; Milne, William I. (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2008-11-01)
This paper reports on the synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures and examines the performance of nanocomposite thin-film transistors (TFTs) fabricated using ZnO dispersed in both n- and p-type polymer host matrices. The ZnO nanostructures considered here comprise nanowires and tetrapods and were synthesized using vapor phase deposition techniques involving the carbothermal reduction of solid-phase zinc-containing compounds. Measurement results of nanocomposite TFTs based on dispersion of ZnO nanorods ...
Prevention of sidewall redeposition of etched byproducts in the dry Au etch process
Aydemir, A.; Akın, Tayfun (IOP Publishing, 2012-07-01)
In this paper we present a new technique of etching thin Au film in a dual frequency inductively coupled plasma (ICP) system on Si substrate to prevent the redeposition of etched Au particles over the sidewall of the masking material known as veils. First, the effect of the lithography step was investigated. Then the effects of etch chemistry and the process parameters on the redeposition of etched Au particles on the sidewall of the masking material were investigated. The redeposition effect was examined b...
Enhanced second harmonic generation from coupled asymmetric plasmonic metal nanostructures
Yıldız, Bilge Can; Taşgın, Mehmet Emre; Abak, Musa Kurtuluş; Coskun, Sahin; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Bek, Alpan (IOP Publishing, 2015-12-01)
We experimentally demonstrate that two coupled metal nanostructures (MNSs), a silver nanowire and bipyramid, can produce similar to 30 times enhanced second harmonic generation compared to the particles alone. We develop a simple theoretical model, presenting the path interference effects in the nonlinear response of coupled MNSs. We show that the reason for such an enhancement can be the occurrence of a Fano resonance due to the coupling of the converter MNS to the long-lived mode of the attached MNS.
Influence of ultrasonically assisted synthesis on particle size of magnetic nanoparticles
KÜÇÜK, Burcu; Özkan, Necati; Volkan, Mürvet (2013-10-01)
Poly(methacrylic acid)(PMAA) coated magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized via co-precipitation in aqueous solution with the use of conventional magnetic stirring and ultrasonic agitation. It has been shown that the ultrasonic agitation during the synthesis of magnetite particles decreased the size of PMAA-coated magnetic agglomerates significantly. The primary particle size of iron oxide particles was determined as approximately 10 nm by X-ray diffraction method (Scherer's equation). The volume w...
Modification of TiO2(001) surface electronic structure by Au impurity investigated with density functional theory
METE, ERSEN; GÜLSEREN, Oğuz; Ellialtıoğlu, Süleyman Şinasi (American Physical Society (APS), 2009-07-01)
We have used density functional theory calculations based on the projector augmented wave method to investigate the electronic structure of Au-incorporated anatase TiO2(001) surface. Due to the coordination with several level oxygens, Au atoms can be encapsulated inside TiO2 slab. Au is adsorbed over the surface Ti-O bond, so-called the bridge site on anatase TiO2(001) - 1 X 1 surface. However, for 0.25 monolayer coverage, Au atoms energetically prefer to stay at 0.64 angstrom above the midpoint of the two ...
