Use of pimecrolimus to prevent epidural fibrosis in a postlaminectomy rat model Laboratory investigation
Cemil, Berker; Tun, Kagan; Kaptanoglu, Erkan; Kaymaz, Figen; Cevirgen, Banu; CÖMERT, AYHAN; TEKDEMİR, İBRAHİM (Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group (JNSPG), 2009-12-01)
Object. Epidural fibrosis is the scar tissue formed over the dura mater after a laminectomy. Extensive epidural fibrosis may be an important underlying cause of failed back syndrome. Pimecrolimus, an ascomycin derivative, is one of the new classes of immunomodulating macrolactams and was specifically developed for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. This study examined the preventive effects of the local application of pimecrolimus in minimizing spinal epidural fibrosis in a rat laminectomy model.
Effect of dietary selenium and vitamin E on the biomechanical properties of rabbit bones
Turan, B; Balcik, C; Akkas, N (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-09-01)
It is generally agreed that combined deficiency of selenium and vitamin E leads to several abnormalities including Kashin-Beck disease which is an endemic and chronic degenerative osteoarthrosis. The abnormalities can be reversed by the administration of various forms of selenium and vitamin E.
Effect of medication on biomechanical properties of rabbit bones: Heparin induced osteoporosis
Akkas, N; Yeni, YN; Turan, B; Delilbasi, E; Gunel, U (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-11-01)
The aim of this controlled study is to investigate the effect of heparin on osteoporosis initiation and of calcitonin and tamoxifen on the progress of osteoporosis induced by heparin through biomechanical means and, thus, to assist in clinical usage of these drugs, 32 four-month-old female New Zealand white rabbits were divided into four different experimental groups, The animals in group A were administered heparin (Liquemine) intraperitoneally at the dosage of 1000 IU/kg/day, The animals in group B were i...
Effects of plasmid curing on antibiotic susceptibility, phage type, lipopoly saccharide and outer membrane protein profiles in local Salmonella isolates
İçgen, Bülent; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Özcengiz, Gülay (Elsevier BV, 2001-12-01)
Five different Salmonella isolates (four Salmonella enteritidis and one Salmonella havana) of human, chicken or egg origin which all expressed smooth lipopolysaccharide were subjected to plasmid curing Upon this treatment, four isolates lost at least one of their resident plasmids while all five isolates became rough in their LPS profiles, Two of the S. enteritidis isolates, CA13 and CE7 were found to convert phage types (PTs) as well. The phage type conversion in CA13 from PT6 to PT21 was found to be accom...
Effect of mercury, cadmium, nickel, chromium and zinc on kinetic properties of NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase purified from leaping mullet (Liza saliens)
Bozcaarmutlu, Azra; Arinc, Emel (Elsevier BV, 2007-04-01)
Information on the mechanism of metal ion inhibition of NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase is limited. The purpose of the present paper was to elucidate in vitro effect of Hg(+2), Cd(+2), Ni(+2), Cr(+3) and Zn(+2) ions on the purified mullet NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase. NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase was purified from detergent-solubilized liver microsomes from leaping mullet (Liza saliens). All of the metal ions caused inhibition of the enzyme activity except Zn(+2). At 50 mu M metal concentration, Hg(+2...
