Prediction of swelling potential of Ankara soils by methylene blue test

1993-01-01
The swelling potential characteristics of Ankara soils by using different swelling potential classification methods developed by different researchers were investigated. The influence of the mineralogical composition of swelling potential of expansive clay soils and the use of Methylene Blue Test in order to predict their swelling potential were studied. A swelling potential classification method has been proposed by using clay content versus methylene blue value chart.

Determination of esterase enzyme polymorphism in house fly (Musca domestica L.) populations in Turkey
TAŞKIN, VATAN; Taskin, Belgin Gocmen; KÜÇÜKAKYÜZ, KÖKSAL; Kence, Meral (2011-01-01)
The objective of this study was to determine esterase enzyme polymorphism in 16 natural Musca domestica L. populations from the Aegean and Mediterranean regions of Turkey by using the native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) technique. The high level of genetic variation among populations and species make esterase enzymes an important tool for analyzing genetic differentiation and evolutionary relationships in insects. In the present study, 22 a-esterase bands were detected by using a-naphthylacetat...
Comparison of undrained shear strength by pressuremeter and other tests, and numerical assessment of the effect of finite probe length in pressuremeter tests
IŞIK, Nihat Sinan; ULUSAY, REŞAT; Doyuran, Vedat (2015-08-01)
There is a wide body of research reported in the literature which compare the undrained shear strength determined from various field and laboratory tests. The pressuremeter testing equipment and the related design techniques have been continuously refined. However, the undrained shear strength (S (u)) determined from the pressuremeter test (PMT) is generally higher than that obtained from other field or laboratory tests. In this study, numerical methods to consider the effects of length to diameter ratio (L...
Determination of metabolic bottlenecks using reaction engineering principles in serine alkaline protease production by recombinant bacillus sp.
Telli, İlkin Ece; Çalık, Pınar; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
In this study, firstly, bioprocess characteristics for Serine Alkaline Protease (SAP) production, using recombinant Bacillus subtilis carrying pHV1431::subC, were examined. The cell concentration, substrate concentration, SAP activity and SAP synthesis rate profiles demonstrated that the system reaches to a steady state in terms of cell growth and SAP synthesis between t=15-25 h, therefore, this time interval is appropriate to employ both metabolic flux analysis and metabolic control analysis, which apply s...
DEVELOPMENT OF 3D PRINTED PECTIN AND GELATIN BASED BIOACTIVE SKIN GRAFTS
Bostancı, Nazlı Seray; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Department of Biotechnology (2021-8-10)
The aim of this study was to develop an easily applicable and bioactive skin graft composed of methacrylated pectin (PeMA) and methacrylated gelatin (GelMA), containing curcumin and/or Vitamin-C as antimicrobial and healing accelerating agents, respectively. Grafts were prepared in slab, 3D printed and 3D bioprinted forms and different properties were evaluated. Preparation parameters were optimized using slabs having different compositions (PeMA:GelMA as P:G 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3, v/v). P1:G1 solution did not h...
Analysis of cellulase and polyphenol oxidase production by southern pine beetle associated fungi
Valiev, Abduvali; Ögel, Zümrüt Begüm; Klepzig, Kier D. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-09-01)
In this study, the production of extracellular enzymes by fungi associated with southern pine beetle was investigated for the first time. Cellulase and polyphenol oxidase production were analyzed for three beetle associated fungi. Only the mutualistic symbiont Entomocorticium sp. A was found to produce cellulases and polyphenol oxidase. In time course analyses of cellulase production in batch cultures, Entomocorticium sp. A showed maximum activity of 0.109 U/ml and 0.141 U/ml for total cellulase and endoglu...
