Second life ODTÜ kampüsü

2011-02-04
3D virtual worlds provide new opportunities in higher education. Many universities in the world have been using Second Life, commonly used 3D virtual world, for educational purposes and they have been offering courses, conducting meetings, seminars and conferences in their Second Life Campuses. In this study, Second Life METU Campus has been designed and developed. During 2010 Fall semester, METU Computer Education and Instructional Technology Department Teaching Methods Course has been delivered in a blended way. Students participated in group activities and practiced the implementation of teaching techniques in virtual classrooms.

Students' experiences and perceptions of anxiety, motivation, and self-confidence in speaking English during task-based language learning activities in second life: the case of METU
Kamalı, Tuğba; Bulu, Saniye Tuğba; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2012)
3D virtual worlds are emerging distance education technologies that offer collaborative learning environments and provide effective ways to apply task-based activities. The aim of this case study was to examine the contribution of task-based language learning in 3D virtual worlds to speak English as a foreign language among university preparatory class students in terms of anxiety, motivation, and self-confidence. Therefore, different English speaking practice tasks/activities were designed in Second Life. ...
Üç boyutlu sanal dünyalar: eğitimciler için yol haritası
Tokel, Saniye Tuğba; Gül, Abdülmenaf (null; 2013-01-25)
Dünya çapında, üç boyutlu sanal dünya platformlarının kullanımı her geçen gün artmaktadır.
A Framework for Web-based Education Systems Supporting Interdisciplinary Design Collaboration
Karakaya, Ahmet Fatih ; Taşlı Pektaş, Şule (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 2007-6-01)
Web-based educational systems are promising applications to enhance design education. Although the advantages of such systems have been discussed in the literature extensively, few studies in the field have used them for teaching interdisciplinary design collaboration. In order to alleviate this problem, a web-based interdisciplinary building design studio was designed and implemented. Considering the lack of systematic approaches in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in studios, th...
A new game-based immersive virtual learning tool for perceiving behaviour of structures: structurepuzzlevr .
Güney, Ere; Sorguç, Arzu Gönenç.; Department of Architecture (2019)
It is widely accepted that virtual reality technologies will be used effectively used in architecture education as it is in other educations. However, according to the literature, there is a few examples of how immersive interactive virtual reality can be used in structural design education. StructurePuzzleVR is a game supported by digital game-based learning and surrounding-interactive virtual reality technology, designed to comprehend the behavior of structures under various situations by the help of simu...
Co-developing STEM activities through design thinking approach for fifth graders
Öztürk, Ahsen; Korkut, Fatma; Department of Industrial Design (2020)
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education aims to integrate diverse disciplines by making interdisciplinary collaboration in K-12 education. When we review the STEM training and course materials given to teachers in Turkey, it is observed that they mainly focus on science and mathematics, and remain insufficient for disciplines such as social sciences, Turkish, English or visual arts. This situation implies that teachers from diverse disciplines need to work collaboratively among themselves...
