The current thesis aims at an understanding of people with multiple tattoos and their experiences regarding getting and after getting those tattoos. Qualitative method was chosen in order to study the unique experiences of such individuals. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six individuals who have multiple tattoos and between the age of 24 and 33. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was used to conduct the analysis. For the current thesis, five superordinate themes were emerged, which are (1) contents of tattoos as a way of conveying meaning, (2) altering the body through tattoos, (3) relationship with other people through tattoos, (4) feelings for having a tattoo and (5) functions of tattoos. These emerging themes are discussed based on literature on tattoos and Lacanian theory of subject.
