The aim of the current research is to examine the subjective and relational experiences of young adults who stutter. Particularly, the purpose of the research is to understand how young adults with stuttering make sense of their experiences and the impact of stuttering on their lives. Qualitative research method was applied in parallel to the aim of the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven individuals who stutter, three of whom were female and four were male. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis method was applied to explore emerging themes. In the research, five superordinate themes have emerged, which are (1) perception of stuttering, (2) tense relationship with authority figures, (3) avoidance due to imagined humiliation, (4) functions of stuttering, (5) early relational experiences. The results were discussed with the framework of Lacanian Psychoanalytic theory.
