This text presents the design of a novel, wideband beam forming network (BFN) realized by defected ground structure (DGS). The BFN is a corporate one with equi-phase and magnitude output ports. In a regular microstrip BFN design, non-standard, thin-and-thick lines are used together with the standard-width (50 Ω) lines for matching purposes. However, in this design, the BFN is implemented by using standard-width microstrip lines, and rectangular defects at the ground with a 0.508 mm-thick Rogers RO4003C substrate in between. Results of the simulation show that the designed structure is a wideband, equi-phase, and equi-magnitude BFN with at most 0.4 dB magnitude difference, and 4° phase difference in the 5.6 GHz-11.1 GHz band. The resulting structure is in a compact form with constant width line lengths on the upper side, and defects on the ground side. In order to avoid the radiation effects from the defect, another substrate of the same dielectric is also placed beneath the DGS. © 2010 IEEE.

An adjustable impedance matching network using RF MEMS technology
Ünlü, Mehmet; Demir, Şimşek; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2003)
This thesis presents design, modeling, and fabrication of an RF MEMS adjustable impedance matching network. The device employs the basic triple stub matching technique for impedance matching. It has three adjustable length stubs which are implemented using capacitively loaded coplanar waveguides. The capacitive loading of the stubs are realized using the MEMS switches which are evenly distributed over the stubs. There are 40 MEMS bridges on each stub whichare separated with ?/40 spacing making a total of 12...
Cold Test Validation of Metamaterial Based Rectangular Slow Wave Structure for High-Power Backward-Wave Oscillators
Eser, Dogancan; Demir, Şimşek (2019-06-01)
In this paper, a novel S band metamaterial based rectangular slow-wave structure (RSWS) is proposed for high-power backward-wave oscillator (BWO). The circular waveguide is loaded with R-SWS that shows negative permittivity and permeability. Since RSWS shows negative permittivity and permeability which is the key characteristics of metamaterial, it can operate below the cut-off frequency. CST Studio Suite is used to analyze high frequency characteristic of SWS. Dispersion diagram of the unit cell is observe...

Memioğlu, Onur; Karakuzulu, Alper; Gündel, Adnan; Koçer, Fatih; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem (2018-11-19)
This paper describes the design and verification results of two wideband class AB High Power Amplifiers (PA), encapsulated in commercial packages. Both amplifiers designed on WIN Semiconductors' 0.25 mu m GaN on SiC technology. The selected GaN process features compact common-source (CS) transistor layouts with individual source grounding vias. The family spans the whole X-band frequency with the first design tuned between 7-11 GHz and the second design tuned between 10-12 GHz. Both designs have saturated p...
Analysis of reconstruction performance of magnetic resonance conductivity tensor imaging (MRCTI) using simulated measurements
DEĞİRMENCİ, EVREN; Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat (2017-01-01)
Magnetic resonance conductivity tensor imaging (MRCTI) was proposed recently to produce electrical conductivity images of anisotropic tissues. Similar to magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT), MRCTI uses magnetic field and boundary potential measurements obtained utilizing magnetic resonance imaging techniques. MRCTI reconstructs tensor images of anisotropic conductivity whereas MREIT reconstructs isotropic conductivity images. In this study, spatial resolution and linearity of five rec...
Design, fabrication and implementation of a vibration based mems energy scavenger for wireless microsystems
Sarı, İbrahim; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
This thesis study presents the design, simulation, micro fabrication, and testing steps of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based electromagnetic micro power generators. These generators are capable of generating power using already available environmental vibrations, by implementing the electromagnetic induction technique. There are mainly two objectives of the study: (i) to increase the bandwidth of the traditional micro generators and (ii) to improve their efficiency at low frequency environmental v...
